I founded Calm Simple Mama in 2025, to support highly sensitive mothers during pregnancy, birth and postpartum — to show how this unique superpower can serve us during one of the most significant times in our lives.

Pregnancy as a Highly Sensitive Mom

When I saw the "+" sign on this stick, I cried of happiness for half a day. It was a dream becoming true!

As the first weeks passed, I became more easily overstimulated. My thoughts were consumed by the baby and the huge change that was about to happen.

How the heck, as a highly sensitive pregnant woman, could I keep showing up at the office with the fatigue of the first trimester, how would I survive the pain of birth, and how would I be able to breastfeed, if it meant sacrificing my precious hours of sleep and time alone to recharge - how would I be able to manage all of the difficulties, and still be the best mother possible to my little boy?

Being both pregnant and highly sensitive really started to feel like a double challenge.

This is when I began looking for resources and support online, only to realize there wasn't enough out there for sensitive expecting mothers like me.

Discovering my High Sensitivity

For years I didn’t understand why life felt so overwhelming. As a student in vet school, I struggled with anxiety and burnout, constantly wondering why I couldn’t keep up with the same pace as everyone else.

When, I finally discovered that I was an Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), everything clicked. I was not broken - my brain was simply wired differently. I began to realize that in order to thrive and be happy, I needed to make different choices. At age 27, I left vet school, aimed for a slower, simpler lifestyle, and began building a life that truly fit me: moving back to the countryside and creating a cosy, warm and stable home with my partner.

Shortly after, I got hired as a designer, we got engaged, pregnant of our very first baby boy, then married - all in one year.

Why I started Calm Simple Mama

I founded Calm Simple Mama in 2025, to support highly sensitive mothers during pregnancy, birth and postpartum — to show how this unique superpower can serve us during one of the most significant times in our lives.

My goal is to help us see sensitivity not just as an obstacle, but as an opportunity to thrive as women, and to become intuitive, empathetic, and deeply loving mothers.

Women give their whole body to pregnancy, birth and nursing.

That’s why I also chose to focus not only on parenthood in general, but more precisely on us mamas — and even more specifically, sensitive mamas.

How to survive the lack of energy, sore nipples, and sleepless nights of breastfeeding? How to cope with the hormonal shifts raging through our bodies? How can we manage the fears and uncertainties of childbirth?

I am living this journey myself right now, and I believe there’s no better time to share my story — authentically, and without filters. My hope is that others like me will be able to learn, feel inspired, grow stronger, and find comfort and support through my words.

Because yes, motherhood is intense. But for us sensitive mamas, it can also be one of the most empowering and transformative journeys we’ll ever take.
